What's the error? The messages are printed for a reason.

What version of Linux, which linux distribution, what version of the distribution?

Which version of Oracle? Oracle for Linux - or the SCO hack?

Without knowing the error, we can only guess very blindly at your problem. I'll have a go and guess that you are installing 8.0.5.1 Production for Linux, on Slackware 3.6, kernel 2.0.35 and are getting "-lnsl not found" during the make of pl/sql, sql*plus and the RDBMS. If this is the case, you can ignore the error. I tried fixing it; couldn't; then just tried starting svrmgrl and it worked.
