Our client is searching for:

Overview: A proven senior technical manager to be part of the management team responsible for developing new releases of our product line.

Reporting Relationship: This position reports to the Vice President of Engineering.

Responsibilities: The position has the following responsibilies:

Direct:
1. Develop and maintain the development project plan. This involves coordination with the Development management (Technology Director and the VP of Engineering) and Product management to determine schedules and feature sets.
2. Manage all development staff from a salary and performance perspective. Manage staff development and training. 3. Develop and maintain the development budget. Manage all time tracking of staff to develop metrics on development. Manage billing of all customer-financed development. 4. Manage the Process Manual to constantly improve it. Post updates to the intranet. 5. Manage the product release schedule, that is, resources, functions, and dates.
6. Hiring responsibility for new staff. 7. Development and maintenance of development alliances.
Staff Management:
1. Quality Assurance Department (currently 2 people, budgeted to be 3 by 2/28/99). Up to 5 outside consultants have worked in this function in the past year. This department is responsible for the quality of the product.
2. Documentation Department (currently 3 people). Up to 3 outside consultants have worked in this function in the past year. This department writes user and technical documentation. 3. (Possibly) Internal Systems Department (currently 3 people). This department maintains all internal networks and systems except development systems. It works closely with the Development DBA function to coordinate all company systems.

Technical Environment:We currently use the following technologies:

The Company has development resources in New York and , India. There are currently 23 technical staff spread across development and technical services (exclusive of senior management).

Business Goals:

The position has the following business goals which drive all management decisions:

  1. On time and on budget delivery
  2. Manage long term agenda while balancing short term needs
  3. Productize the product offering
  4. Enable greater utilization of 3rd party resources
  5. Develop and maintain positive business relationships with Field Ops and other units
  6. Make appropriate use of new technology (evaluate, select, implement)

Ideal Candidate

General
* 5-10 years experience in a software development environment,
preferably for a software company.
* At least 3 years experience in a team leadership role.

Business Experience
* Application experience with logistics management systems (order
entry, inventory control, A/R, shipment management). * Application experience with EDI and data exchange to outside systems and legacy systems.
* Experience with import/export would be a plus.

Technical
* Oracle back end using PL/SQL and stored procedures and packages
