I think it needs an OS authentication. So if you login to the server (not Oracle ) as khoffman with a password of pullHairOut then you will need to supply that. If the OS on the other end is NT then you have to set the rights of that user (e.g. our example khoffman) to allow execute of batch jobs - it is an advanced right. It is also non-intuitive to add that right; Oracle support knew.
