It's hard to assess why this is happening based upon the limited information you have provided. What are you doing? Have you tried the latest ODBC driver for Oracle7 (2.5.3.1.0b) from http://www.oracle.com/products/free_software/ ?

I've worked with a number of customers who have no problems (performance or otherwise) with the Oracle7 ODBC driver, so there has to be a solution to your problem.
