Migrate from Access to Oracle brings in only 255 chars

I've set the datatype in Access to memo(2000) and using the Access to Oracle migration assistant, I move the data and the schema from Access. The table in Oracle says varchar2(2000), but when getting the max(length) for the column in Oracle, it only gives me 255. The column has data in Access of 274 chars. Why does this get truncated. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!
