Compatibility with router firewalls

We're planning to more our LAN to a leased-line internet connection, using (probably) a router that contains its own firewall and VPN product; for example the Cisco 1605 or Ascend Pipeline 220 seem credible choices.

I'm concerned how good they are at passing Oracle networking products, both for the plain firewall and the VPN system.

Does anyone have any experiences to share about passing SQL*NET, JDBC drivers, WebForms etc through these products? Are there any other well known protocols they can't handle (eg H323 conferencing products)?

I don't want to have to recommend the expense of eg FW1 which is overkill for our small setup.
