H.W:

 This is a bug in oracle. I do not remember the bug number, but the workaround  is as follows:

  1. edit the genclntsh in $ORACLE_HOME/bin and comment out the following line.

     #ar d $LIBCOMMON sorapt.o

  2) run the genclntsh script to re-generate the libclntsh.so
