cant use default passwords with po7

hi everyone!

can someone help me out with the following error:

SQL*Plus: Release 3.1.3.5.4 - Production on Wed Sep 30 02:02:58 1998

Error: ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-09243: smsget: error attaching to SGA OSD-01104: unable to attach to SGA: SGA does not exist

i am trying to use an old eval copy of PO 7 and regardless of which default passwords i use (found in the release notes of the product) i cannot connect and get the above error.
