Upgrade Pains...

Hello out there...

Is anyone still running VB 3.0 applications that talk to Oracle7 databases? Are you attempting to upgrade the database connectivity layer (i.e. SQL*Net and ODBC) but are or have run into problems?

The current revisions for our custom-written VB 3.0 application are as follows:

Client Side: Windows for Workgroups 3.11 or NT 4.0, VB 3.0, Integra, SQL*Net TCP/IP 1.1.7.7B, Microsoft 16-bit ODBC driver for Oracle (no version number at this time).

Server Side: HP/UX 10.10 or 10.20, Oracle Server v7.2.2.4

My problem is that no matter what version of SQL*Net 2 that I install on the client, I receive numerous GPF's in the MWINSOCKLIB.DLL module. I even have problems using SQL*Net version 1.1.10.4 on the client!

As you are probably aware, these versions of software have not been supported for quite some time, but I still have the need to upgrade the clients in order to make them supportable by Oracle. We are in the process of rewriting some of the VB 3.0 code to VB 5.0, but I do not want to wait until this is finished to get the client versions of the connectivity software to 32-bit. I would like to run the current 16-bit versions of SQL*Net 2 on the client.

Does anyone have any similar upgrade nightmares that could possibly help me out?

I would greatly appreciate it.
