My hair is falling out over this one. What I thought would be a
relatively painless process has turned into a real pain in the backside.
I am currently using Personal Oracle 8 on a Win95 PC. I am simply trying
to import an Access database (with only one table).
- First I tried saving the Access table as a delimited text file then
importing it into Oracle, but get an "not enough values" error meaning
that the number of columns in the text file does not match the number of
columns in the Oracle table. I have checked this ten times and the
columns are identical. I can only assume that Oracle handles delimited
text files differently to every other database program.
- Next I tried the Migration Assistant for MS Access (version 8.0.3.0.0
-32). All goes well until the point of creating Oracle users when I get
an illegal operation caused by the file MSJT3032.DLL. I have tried
re-installing Oracle and Access95 without success. (The Access file was
originally in Access 2.0 but when that didn't work I tried converting it
to Access 95).
- Next I tried exporting the table as an ODBC database from Access. It
seemed happy and exported Ok (from the Access side) but I cannot see it
in the Oracle database - BUT when I try to create a table using the same
name in Oracle, it says an object already exists with that name. GREAT
!! WHERE IS IT??
I hope somebody can help me with this problem, I am about to throw the
whole lot out the window !!!
Thanks,
John Mengel
