Hi,

Installing Oracle on an NT is very easy to do. The secret is to carefully read the fine manual ahead of time and do a little planning. The only snag I have found is that when you let the installer create your database (as opposed to doing it using the server manager) the default is 20 data files which, in my opinion, isn't enough.

This may not be a problem for your installation and even if it is you can change the number of datafiles by editing the control file of an existing data base. (If you do decide to increase the number of data files you can either create your own database manually from the command line or you can -- under the direction of Oracle support -- edit the control files and increase the limit in an existing database.)

Like I said read the fine manual and don't be afraid to ask questions. The actual install process takes about an hour or two and you will find the Oracle installer is an easy program to use. Since you haven't done this before you should schedule a full day for the install and plan on messing up once or twice. If you do mess up you can use the installer to remove everything and start over with a clean slate.

When doing the install have the installation guide in front of you and follow it step-by-step.
