A Star Query is typically a large "fact" table One with many rows that is joining several smaller "reference" tables (fewer rows). These types of queries are best handled (only handled as Star Queries) by the Cost Based Optimizer. As general rule during a Star Query it is desirable to join the largest table last. This is explained in the Oracle 7 (and 8) 7.3 Tuning Manual Chapter 5 under The Optimizer Overview. Received on Tue Jun 23 1998 - 07:05:17 CDT
