Rather than enter any debate here I will only point out that Oracle runs on IBM Mainframes and has for many years. You can have it both ways, with CICS and/or IMS transactions accessing Oracle from the MVS side and your favorite client platform accessing the same data via SQL*Net TCP/IP or SNA.
