SQL Net and Oracle 6/ Oracle7

I have been tasked with finding out the compatibility of SQLNet 1 (or SQLNet 2) with both Oracle 6 and Oracle 7.

My client had two applications (A & B), running on Oracle 6 but on different systems, and one of the applications (A) accessed the database (to validate data) from the other system (application B) via SQLNet Version 1 which resided on both platforms.

Application B has now been converted to Oracle 7 but there is still a need for application A (currently still on Oracle 6) to validate its data from the database of application B. Can this be done ?

Oracle 7 uses SQLNet 2 and Oracle 6 uses SQLNET 1 and we have been told that these versions are incompatible with each other.

Is the above correct or is there a way around this ?
