I have downloaded and installed Outlook 98 a few days ago and am still getting to grips with it. Just when I got used to IE4 using the same program for mail and news, the go and separate it again. In fact, all that they have actually gone and done with Outlook 98 is to write a fancy new mail program and then use Outlook Express for a newsreader. Outlook 98 now incorporates Schedule + ?? so that you can easily manage a diary, make notes for yourself, make appointments and that sort of thing. I do use my PC a lot, but prefer to use a small pocker diary and pen (some folks like palmtops and the like, but I still write faster that I type), since I don't like walking everywhere with my PC under my arm.

What I do like about Outlook 98 is that the message composer now has a word 97 like appearance and I presume it will then also have an autosave/recover facility. Not that I need something fancy, but my PC does seem to crash a lot these days, especially when I'm nearly at the end of a 3 page email. It is heartbreaking to realise that you haven't saved the message as a draft in the last 45 minutes.

Outlook 98 doesn't seem to support the backround themes for emails that my fiance' likes so much. At least I haven't found it yet.

Is it better that Outlook Express? I guess that depends on your needs. Received on Thu May 21 1998 - 00:00:00 CDT
