Job Title: VLDB Architect
Position Purpose/Objective:
The Very Large Database (VLDB) Architect is responsible for the
development and maintenance of data warehouses in the terabyte + size
range that delivers business intelligence the enterprise. The VLDB
Architect defines, implements and enforces the standards, tools and
procedures necessary to support a very large database.
Major Responsibilities:
Define and administrate Methodologies and Processes Define and administrate Standards, Policies and Procedures Evaluate, develop and implement Products, Tools and Techniques Define servers and databases architecture Plan and engineer database performance Plan and engineer database back-up and recovery Plan and engineer database maintenance Provide database capacity planning Provide technical support
Experience & Skills:
7 - 10 years of experience developing and implementing databases in an RDBMS environment
Hands-on experience with very large databases (VLDB) Mastery of one of the following RDBMS: Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase SQL Server, DB2 or Informix Extensive experience with UNIX and NT operating systems In-depth knowledge of hardware platforms including HP, SUN, DEC, IBM SP2 and Compaq In-depth knowledge of mass storage sub-systems In-depth knowledge of back-up and recovery sub-systems Some project management experience preferred
