| People who want to buy support for Linux can hire one of the many
| professional outfits. In my experience, they tend to get things
| resolved faster and better than any of the commercial OS's support
| contracts. Cheaper, too.

I work for a company that does just that: sell support on Linux. the irony is that we service customers with other UNIX operating-systems as well -- and from what I've heard from our customers we usually do the job a lot better than the consultants from the OS-vendor.
