Help on client-server API

Hi,

I'm creating a "financial" client-server aplication to run over TCP/IP on the Internet, but I'm not certain about what technology can better fit my needs.

Also, I have no much experience with remote connections between databases. So, if you could give me some "points" to start learning, I'll be very glad.
