ORACLE REORGANIZES AND REFOCUSES APPLICATIONS UNIT In what may be seen as a demotion for senior VP Ron Wohl, CEO Larry Ellison is becoming more directly involved in Oracle’s applications unit, reorganizing responsibilities and restructuring the group after its second disappointing sales quarter.
ORACLE PLANS TO REWRITE APPLICATION SUITE AS JAVA COMPONENTS Oracle’s plans to rewrite its entire application suite as a collection of Java components will be unveiled at next month's Oracle Applications User Group conference in San Diego. The rewrite is to be made possible by an update of Oracle's Designer/2000 modeling tool.
ORACLE TO BE BUNDLED WITH NOVELL NETWARE Oracle and Novell Inc. announced a bundling agreement that will provide Novell's NetWare users with Oracle8. A five-user version of Oracle8 will be bundled with versions of NetWare 4.11 and the upcoming 5.0 version.
ORACLE DISCOVERER 3.1 GOES TO BETA
Oracle announces the beta version of Oracle Discoverer 3.1, Oracle's ad
hoc query, analysis, and reporting tool that lets users drill down to
increasingly detailed levels of data to actual database transactions.
ORACLE CLINICAL 3.1 AVAILABLE NOW
Oracle reported the availability of the new release of its clinical
data-management solution, Oracle Clinical, designed to support the
management of data collected during clinical trials. Oracle Clinical 3.1
includes many new enhanced features.
ORACLE APP SERVER TO SUPPORT SECURE COMMUNICATION Oracle Corp. and Consensus Development Corp. announced the licensing of Consensus Development's SSL Plus toolkit for use in Oracle's Internet products. Oracle Application Server 4.0 will use SSL Plus, Consensus Development's Secure Socket Layer (SSL) network security technology.
