I missed the beginning of this thread, so apologies if this has already been covered, either by the original poster or someone else.

I common cause of poor insert performance is small redo logs. It the logs are too small, the database has to do frequent checkpoints and may also have to wait for the logs to be archived. The default sizes for redo logs are far to small for anything but the most trivial work.

Look for frequent log switches and/or checkpoint not complete messages in alert_$ORACLE_SID.log Received on Fri Mar 27 1998 - 00:00:00 CST
