I'm attempting to do exactly the same thing on Digital Unix 4.0... with similar results I'm sad to say.

According to Oracle Tech Support, the OCI is only certified thread-safe on versions 7.3.3 and above. They are sending me a 7.3.4 CD today that I'm going to run my tests against. I'll let you know how it goes.

Yes, kpumgs() seems to be a consistent misbehaver: line 139 of kpum.c.
