I agree with the other repsonses that you got. But I have an idea of what you may have read. When migrating from Oracle 7 to 8, the migration utility does not update the data and indexes to use the new rowid format. Oracle 8 will update these rowids when the users or applications access the data. So a select doing a full table scan would update all rowids. Maybe this is related to what you read???
