Oracle Database Administrator

Our client is the largest health maintenance organization (HMO) in their state, located in a very desirable, medium sized Southeastern metropolitan area. Started in 1985, they are well-known and well-respected for quality healthcare, rated #1 in the nation by the National Research Corporation. They have state-of-the-art facilities, leading edge, high performance information systems and a network of physicians which includes many of The Best Doctors in America, 1996-1997. The company is implementing all new systems, databases and applications, utilizing Sequent's high performance Numa Q technology, open systems, Oracle 8, Oracle Express and "next generation" healthcare applications. The Database Administrator will have significant impact on the performance, flexibility and scalability of all systems and all applications. This is an opportunity to set up the databases and operating environment the most efficient way from the start, and to enhance and tune those systems on an on-going basis in a production environment where performance is critical. Will be responsible for logical and physical database design, UNIX/Numa Q optimization and administration, performance tuning, database security and utility tools development.

The successful candidate will have at least five years of Oracle database administration with Version 7 or later in a UNIX environment. At least five years of UNIX systems administration, logical and physical database design and SQL optimization, and at least three years of relational database performance tuning and database security administration is also required. SQL application development experience and data modeling experience is very desirable. DBA experience in an SMP environment and/or an Oracle 8 environment would be a big plus. Healthcare industry experience is preferred. This person will be described as a team player with superior communications skills. The successful candidate will portray a professional image and presence, have a positive "can do" outlook, and be completely open-minded to new, innovative ideas and solutions. A Bachelor's degree in either computer science, mathematics, information management or a related field is a requirement. Alternately this requirement can be met through equivalent experience. An advanced degree would be a plus. The compensation includes a base salary of $75 to 85K, an excellent company-paid benefits plan, 401(k) program, and profit sharing. Relocation assistance will be provided by the company.
