Maybe you should dump that Siemens Nixdorf trash and get yourself a decent platform ;-)

Seriously though, it can be anything. Remember that the operating system defaults are different between NT and Unix, and even between different flavours of Unix. What are the various operating system kernel settings and how do they compare?

It also depends on the platform configuration. For example you can not compare a single CPU Siemens Nixdorf RM400 with a 4 CPU Pentium. Or match disk i/o between a single SCSI controller on a RM400 with multiple SCSI controller on a NT box. Or compare the speed of a RAID5 system with that of RAID0. (I assume that NT does not run on your RISC hardware as Siemens Nixdorf only sells and support Unix on their RISC hardware)

Lastly, it also depends on the Oracle configurations. The Oracle configuration on NT may not necessarily be the best one for a Unix box - for example the block sizes between NT's NFS quite likely differs from the Unix filesystem's block size which requires different Oracle settings.

IMHO I think that you are not comparing apples with apples. And yes, there will be instances where Oracle on NT can outperform Oracle on Unix. The so-called fact that Unix is *always* faster than NT is a fallacy.
