Geoff:

Go into the documentation called ORacle Developer's Guide (it uses Acrobat reader so you'll need that to read it... read the first couple of chapters...I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

PS when you connect as system...are you still using the ODBC:POLITE connect string?
