OS authentication requires a UNIX user id and connection. For example, telnet to UNIX and issue SQLPLUS / and it works. If there is no UNIX connection, then OS authentication will not work. It is not a solution for a two tier client server app. It will work for 3 tier if the app server is on the same UNIX box as Oracle.
