Migrating from Oracle7 NT to Solaris

I'm considering deploying initially on NT for cost reasons and then migrating to Solaris as the system grows.

Is there anyone who has successfully made this move? How compatible are the two systems? Obviously, there are differences in administration, but are the file formats compatible, or do you need to dump and restore the databases? Were there any application changes required? Thanks,
