Does ANALYZE tables/indexes need to be executed periodically ?!

We have a 7.3.3 db installed on a Sun Server. The optimizer_mode is set to CHOOSE. When we try to execute some SQL statements ( not well tuned ), the performance is extremely slow. But after ANALYZE all tables and indexes, we get all the results on the fly.

Thanks in advance !
