- ORACLE STOCK FALLS ON ANNOUNCEMENT OF 2Q NET INCOME
Oracle reported net income of $187 million for its second fiscal
quarter, ended Nov. 30 - that's $0.19 cents per share. Oracle's gains,
up a mere 4.5 percent from a year ago, fell far short of analysts'
predictions. This disappointment translated into a frenzy of Oracle
stock changing hands and the stock price plummeting 29 percent. Why is
this happening to Oracle?
- NEW DEVELOPER/2000 SERVER TO HELP REDEPLOY CLIENT/SERVER APPS
Available this month, the Oracle Developer/2000 Server provides a
single, prepackaged solution for deploying software applications on
scalable application servers that can be accessed from network
computers, PCs, or Java-based thin clients.
- ORACLE OFFERS JUMPSTART FOR NETWORK COMPUTING
Oracle announced that it is offering a two-day program to introduce
customers and partners to the benefits of network computing. Known as
the Network Computing JumpStart Program, it is a combination of products
and services designed to help customers begin network computing projects
and operate their own installation of network computers.
- ORACLE'S YELLOW BRICK ROAD TO JAVA-BASED APPS
Oracle unveiled the following new Java development and deployment
products that are scheduled to either ship or enter beta release this
month, for Windows NT and Unix:
- Oracle Applications Release 10.7 NCA
- Oracle Lite 3.0
- Two new JDBC drivers for Oracle database access
- Project Valhalla
- Oracle Application Server 4.0
- NOVELL AND ORACLE PARTNERSHIP PRODUCES THE ORACLE WEB APPLICATION
SERVER AND ORACLE8 FOR NETWARE
These soon-to-be-released tools let developers take advantage of
Oracle's Internet and data server technology and Novell Directory
Services to develop Java compliant, Web-based applications in existing
applications.
- SUN UNVEILS ENTERPRISE JAVA TOOLS
Sun Microsystems announced an almost-complete specification for its
Enterprise JavaBeans set of APIs.
- SYBASE ANNOUNCES ADAPTIVE SERVER IQ, WAREHOUSE ARCHITECT, AND
POWERDESIGNER 6.1
At Database & Client/Server World in Chicago, Sybase announced Adaptive
Server IQ 11.5, an enhanced version of its database that features faster
ad hoc and planned queries. Sybase also debuted Warehouse Architect and
PowerDesigner 6.1.
