Web Apllication Server 3.0 causing Database server to hang

We are working on a strange problem regarding Oracle Web Aplication Server 3.0.1.8.0.0 on Windows NT and SGI/Irix. The database is Oracle 7.1.3, running on an IBM SP/2 node (AIX), accessed via SQL*Net.

Running WAS on Windows NT gives good performance (less than a second), but crashes pretty often.

Running WAS on the SGI machine (no other applications installed there) gives bad performance (avg. 10 sec.). Sometimes however, a process on the SP/2 node (most likely some shadow process of the SQL*Net listener) consumes all available memory so causing the machine to swap permanently.

Until now we could not find anything that could cause this strange behaviour. Oracle could not
help us either.

Any suggestions around the world? Thanks in advance.
