Judith,

I was assuming that you already installed sql*net add-on option from personal oracle cd and you have the lsnrctl executables in your ORACLE_HOME/bin directory. (if not, install it first and it will create a listener.ora file for you automatically). use tnsping to check the database alias you used in your tnsnames.ora file and trouble shooting from there if anything goes wrong.

Keep in mind that it only allow one sql*net connection a time if you are running personal oracle7.
