TWO_TASK (was Help! ORA-12546: TNS:permission denied)

Hi,

thanks to all who replied.

I have now the solution for my problem, which however leads to a question. The reason why it did not work for me is that I set the environment variable TWO_TASK. (to "gerhard")

The other users had the variable ORACLE_SID set (to "orcl").

unsetting TWO_TASK and setting ORACLE_SID worked, as expected. But:

Why does setting TWO_TASK not work????
