Backing up incremental data

Hello,

I just received the Oracle Backup and Recovery book, but thought I'd try to get a jump-start.

We currently have a base and incremental table. We do weekly backups of the incremental table's datafiles.

Due to the size of our tables, I'm splitting them into seven 3-month pieces accessed via a partition view.

The potential problem is that while I can still back up the one table that is considered 'incremental', it is likely for data to be inserted into some of the other partitions.

We don't have the time to back up the entire database every week.

What is the best method of maintaining recovery integrity? Is it just by using archivelog mode or do I have any other options?

Thank you!
