ODBC access to 'PUBLIC' objects

Hi,

Using GUI tools like M/S Query and connecting via ODBC, users get to see all objects with 'PUBLIC' access. Some of these are the result of database create scripts, and a lot have been created by application developers over time. Some of this stuff can be secure / confidential. ODBC users can see the lot. Of course, using the application this is never a problem.

What is required is a RESTRICTED user who can access only those objects that have been specifically granted.

If 'PUBLIC' was a role there wouldn't be a problem! My only alternative is to grant all 'PUBLIC' to a another role and exclude this role from the ODBC user.'PUBLIC' can be a moving target and this creates an ongoing maintenance problem.

Any ideas?
