Oracle and JDBC

I am leading a team developing 3-tier Java applications (Java client, Java application server, Oracle) for the federal agency I work for. Java makes sense because these applications do not need to be super fast and uses have a variety of clients (x-terms, OS/2 PCs, Win 95/NT PCs, Macs). Oracle is running on AIX. The application server will usually be on AIX, but could be on NT or OS/2. SQL*Net will be available across all platforms. Oracle, by the way, distributes servers on all these platforms. Will there be JDBC type 2 drivers that work on OS/2, Windows NT, and AIX? If so, when? If not, why not? It just seems self-evident that Oracle would want to enable Java access across all platforms they produce servers for. Like IBM has done for DB2 (which is excellent btw).

Thanks, Brad
