I could be completely wrong, but in my experience, Oracle will abide by the 'user profile' (or do you mean 'roles' in this case) regardless of how you have logged in (ODBC, SQLNET or local).

Could any readers correct me if I'm wrong. There is an exception to the rule I'm sure...
