OK... Maybe it was four quarters (in a row). If you look at year-end numbers for 1995 and 1996, Sybase reported losing 19 million for the year in 1995 and 79 million for the year in 1996. Again, we like the product despite the difficulties we had with version 10. I would question anyone who can confidently say that Sybase is on solid ground financially yet. Their last quarter reported minimal profits, but if you look closely at the numbers, they were achieved through cost cutting measures, not growth of the business. The revenue from DBMS license fees declined $12 million from the first quarter in 1996. I hope Sybase does turn it around since I own stock in the company, but we as a company couldn't choose it as a strategic part of our framework given the near term performance...
