SQL*Net setup

Hi,

I have installed the trial version of Personal Oracle 7 in Win95 and can use SQLPLUS after running setup. I have to use another software application, which requires to install SQL*Net, to connect to Oracle.

I run SQL*Net Easy Config, but with a few questions: 1. What is database alias for?
2. What is the service_name?

I have looked up from the SQL*net help... I have added a new database alias, but seems no observable changes. Will it really like this after adding a new database alias?

In fact, I am mess up with all these terms.... Maybe these ques seems stupid, but please help as I am just a new learner...

Any advice or comments are welcome. Really thanks.
