What is faster: Synonyms or Qualified names?

I have PUBLIC synonyms defines for almost all of the object in a schema so they can be seen even when their name is fully qualified in a query. I was wondering if the overhead of Oracle looking up names in the PUBLIC schema has significant impact on performance? Or it doesn't matter?

Thanks.
