Oracle 5.3C for DOS - problem unders Windows 95

OK - after the jokes about even bothering to maintain such an old version of the database-

I just got a new pentium machine and am having problems getting Oracle started now. SQLPME simply hangs when started - spewing space characters to the screen.

I have the old computer (a 486) still running - under Windows 95.

I've tried changing the machine type (using all values that I know of: 0,1,2,3,J,A,B,C), but the results are always the same.

Anyone else experienced this?

And (more to the point) does anyone have a solution?

Thanks.
