Calling DBA's: Symmetric Replication REQUIREMENTS????

Hello all...

Current setup

Oracle7 Server Release 7.1.4.1.0
SQL*Plus: Release 3.1.3.5.1
PL/SQL Release 2.1.4.0.0

running on: DataGeneral (DG)
DG => AV5900 Intel ix86 4x199(MHz) R4.11MU03(rel) 2.5 GB(RAM)

I would like to know what is needed to install symmetric replication. Is there a certain version of ORACLE that needs to be installed? Does the database need to be altered?
What are the steps to install the sym rep option? What is an estimated cost overall?
What needs to be done to set the timer?

Any good WWW sites or FAQ's you can point me to?
