With UNIX servers so often offering relational databases, the technology of the RDBMS "engine" is vital, and one level below that, the technology of the disk storage that contains the database is equally vital.
Bob Mortenson is Senior Product Manager at Mylex Corporation. Mylex, located in Fremont, is a large OEM in the disk storage and interface card business. Earlier, Bob worked for MaxStor and Micropolis.
Bob will give overview and status of the magnetic and optical parts of the storage industry, will give a survey of the history and status of RAID technology, and will discuss new RAID developments and directions.
