Actually, Oracle seems to default to the current century when using the format 'DD-MON-YY'. So '21-apr-97' would give 21-apr-1997 when given today, but 21-apr-2097 when given five years from now. I tested this few months ago, BUT PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG.
