This is as unlikely as Oracle abandoning the database and centering on Applicatons.

Applications are a fundamental part of Oracle's long term strategy, and have long been viewed as keeping Oracle going as the database becomes a "commodity".

Ray Lane has articulated this strategy since joining Oracle.
