Synonyms for Table Columns - Are they possible?

Hi All,

We have created synonyms for a 100-table database that makes it easier for our users so they don't have to type such long table names (Ex: synonym for CUSTOMER_ORDER table is CO).

My question: Is there a way in Oracle to create synonyms for column names similar to tables and views? Some of our column names are also very long and we would like to shorten them with synonyms as well (Ex: synonym for CUSTOMER_ORDER_NUM would be CON, etc.)

Any help on this on whether or not it can be done would be greatly appreciated.
