A good way to to discourage people from replying to this sort of message is to set followups to alt.dev.null (as I have done with this post). Any replies to your message will then simply disappear, unless the person replying notices what you did and knows how to restore the original newsgroup list. It's not foolproof, but it's useful practice nevertheless.
