IMPORT Error IMP-00038: Character Set Handle Not Found

From Personal Oracle 7.1 for Windows 3.1, I exported objects owned by a specified user, using the GUI tool provided. But when I try to import the .DMP file into Personal Oracle 7.2.2.4 for Windows NT (using the DOS character-mode executable provided with the NT version), I get this error:

"IMP-00038 Could not find environment character set handle"

The error occurs after I have provided the USER, the .DMP native file name, and the BUFFER size, for which there are prompts (i.e. I have not provided any command-line arguments to IMP72.EXE).

It would appear from the manuals that any character-set conversion is done automatically, when necessary, so I assume that the character-set handle that cannot be found is the one used by Oracle for NT.

  1. How do I tell IMP72.EXE what character-set to use so I can import these objects?
  2. Is there a GUI version of the IMPORT tool that did not ship with PersonalOracle for NT but which is now available? (This is a licensed copy -- not a trial version-- if that makes a difference.)

Thanks in advance for advice or information. Please cc: me at tim_at_ot.com if you post to the group.
