How to parse long datatypes???

Has anyone had a need to parse long datatypes into smaller (60 byte) strings?

From pl/sql one can use varchar(32767) and select a long into it then use various string manipulation functions (length, substr, etc.) but what about if one is dealing with greater than 32767 bites????

Any ideas....

Please also email any responces to my work address: jentilucci_at_notes.seagate.com

Thanks....Alex
