Hi.
I just wondered if anybody out there knows if this kind of Oracle
(or other DBS, if Oracle can't cope with these specifications) based www
development and -admin. tool exists:
- client programs put text documents, pictures, sound, etc. into the
database. Along with the actual content (ie. the text, the picture),
more information about the "object" is submitted, such as themes
mentioned, names, links, etc. (This is an editorial system.) This
information is supposed to be processed in either kind of way, for
example for building a list of other documents in the database
regarding some specific subject. Links are supposed to be "soft",
that is, if the link is an "internal" link, a link to another object,
it should be updated as soon as the linked object is moved.
- there should be a site administration package, where one should be
able to move documents from one section to another, change "flow
pattern" (see below), change templates, etc. (A graphical interface,
of course.)
- the database server processes the text documents, wraps them into
template pages and pushes the raw text onto a web server. The
db-server sits inside a firewall, the web-server is outside. No
direct contact should be made from the web-server to the db-server,
only the opposite direction is allowed.
- one should be able to specify a timed "flow" of the text document,
ie. first 2 days as a "main feature", then 2 days in another section,
then it's moved to an archive. The layout is specified by templates,
and should be dynamically and automagically ;-) updated. One should
also be able to specify when the document should be accessible, eg.
immediately, in 2 days, tomorrow at 12:00pm. Contraints should be
made regarding what should be done if a document is to be moved,
but there is no successor.
I have a lot of further specifications, but you should be getting an
idea of what I want. A suggestion regarding the implementation: the
clients would be written in either Java or Visual Basic, the server
would be wrapped up in Java, Perl or C. The OS for both clients and
server would be MS NT v4.0.
If you know of any software capable of doing things like these, or
a software firm situated near Norway, Europe, which would be capable
of constructing this, I'd be very pleased to hear from you.
TIA.
And: I wish y'all a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
