Original question was how to stop user from seeing public objects.

The answer is, if select has been granted to public on the object, you do not.
But some people new to Oracle equate public synonyms with being able to see a table, and this is not true. The select priviledge must be granted to the user or he/she will not be able to see it.

If the access is through a product like DataQuery3 or Oracle Browser then there are 7 or so different security views and an interface layer that can be used to control access respectively. Similar products should offer similar interface techniques.
